The Fishing Industry Association (FIA) of PNG has condemned WCPFC’s move to temporarily suspend or waive the 100% observer coverage onboard tuna purse seiners. The FIA announced that all of its MSC fishing trips will continue to apply compulsory PNG observer placement.
In early May, the fishery was granted MSC certification for 64 vessels flagged to the Philippines and PNG targeting skipjack and yellowfin in the northern waters of the PNG’s EEZ and Archipelagic Waters.
