Make Stewardship Count calls out for support in restoring the credibility of the label!
Coalition members from Stop Finning (Julian Engel), from VDST (Ralph Schill) and from Sharkproject (Iris Ziegler) were on stage at the BOOT show in Düsseldorf on January 21st for an interview about the objectives and the current status of the coalition’s campaign for reforms of the MSC standard and certification processes. The international coalition of by now 82 organisations and scientists calls out to the Marine Stewardship Council to urgently implement the requested improvements as part of the upcoming standard review in a fully inclusive and transparent process.
“MSC we Need You” said Iris Ziegler, when asked what the objective of the coalition was. “But the label also needs to deliver what it promises”. The coalition thus asks all stakeholders, i.e. NGOs, fisheries, food processors, retailers, and the consumers to support this call for urgency, in order to restore the credibility of the label and to help consumers to make truly sustainable choices when buying their seafood.
*Another presentation from the coalition will happen on Sunday 27th of January at 5 pm CET.
