With the end of their MSC certification nearing, the lobster fishery in the Canadian Maritime region has to qualify again. Although the article indicates that the fishery is “sailing toward sustainability”, and that all that is needed to keep the certification is to develop a plan- perhaps less of a certification and more of a suggestion – concerns were raised by NGOs in advance of the public report regarding the fishery’s impact on ETP species such as leatherback turtles, blue whales and especially right whales, which now number below 400 individuals.
