The Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) maintains its recognition by the Global Sustainable Seafood Initiative (GSSI), a partner of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), as highlighted in the updated Global Benchmark Tool. Initially acknowledged by GSSI in 2017, the MSC’s Fisheries Standard aligns with FAO guidelines, ensuring responsible fishing practices and sustainable seafood sourcing. The tool, developed through expert and public consultation, promotes confidence in certified seafood and encourages improvement in certification schemes, ultimately contributing to seafood sustainability efforts worldwide.
