The MSC issued a press release announcing that it had joined the call on the WTO to end harmful fishing subsidies this year. Frédéric Le Manach, the Scientific Director for coalition member Bloom, describes this as ‘pure greenwashing’ and we agree!
Rupert Howes has been very vocal in the media about stopping harmful subsidies, and yet the MSC’s standard has allowed the certification of many fleets that receive harmful subsidies! The MSC’s PR also makes it sounds like they are part of the Stop Funding Overfishing coalition, which they are not.
